Complex Fluids

Complex fluids are materials which consist of a mixture of several components having different length scales and energy scales. For example, polymer solutions consist of long polymer chains in a molecular solvent. Other examples include liquid crystals, colloidal suspensions, gels, and fluid membranes. In particular, most biological materials are complex fluids.

 

At the School of Chemistry research is conducted both experimentally and theoretically to explore the structure, dynamics, and stochastic behavior of complex fluids such as bio-polymer networks, bio-membranes, and new types of colloidal suspensions.
